Description: The American Credo Issue (1960-1961)
Washington's statement is from his Farewell Address, 1798. Franklin's is from Poor Richard's Almanac, 1740 edition. Jefferson, though born to aristocracy, was champion of the common man. Key's quote is from poem, "The Star Spangled Banner." Despite his statement, Lincoln allowed freedom to all. Patrick Henry made his speech at Richmond, Va., 1775.
